English Painter, 1681-1749 English painter. It seems likely that his family origins and name were French. The Painter-Stainers' Company records that he was apprenticed as a house painter to William Clarke from 1696, but by 1710 he had become a marine artist, filling the gap in the market left by the death of Willem van de Velde the younger in 1707. Most of his subsequent career was devoted to careful imitations of van de Velde's style (and, in some cases, of particular pictures), by which, according to Vertue, 'he distinguished himself and came into reputation'. Max Pechstein
German Expressionist Painter, 1881-1955,German painter and printmaker. He was apprenticed as a decorator in Zwickau from 1896 to 1900, when he moved to Dresden to enrol at the Kunstgewerbeschule, where he met the architect Wilhelm Kreis and the painter Otto Gussmann (1869-1926) and obtained decorative commissions. He continued his studies from 1902 until 1906 as Gussmann's pupil at the Dresden Kunstakademie. Through Kreis, Pechstein was introduced to Erich Heckel in 1906 and was invited by him to join DIE BRECKE, a group founded in the previous year that was quickly to become a major force in the rise of German Expressionism.
Frans Post
1612-1680 Dutch Frans Post Gallery was a Dutch painter. He was the first European artist to paint landscapes of the New World. In 1636 he traveled to Dutch Brazil at the invitation of Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen, who was governor-general there, at the suggestion of his brother Pieter Post. In 1644, Post returned to Haarlem. Of his Brazilian landscapes, some depict actual locations, while others are probably imaginary. Post's art is usually classified as Baroque.
